The rules we hold ourselves to so this directory stays worth reading.
How content is researched
Every city, listing, guide and itinerary on Discover Netherlands is researched against three sources at minimum: at least one primary experience signal, at least one official source, and at least one cross-check from a trusted travel source or booking marketplace.
Official checks may include Government of the Netherlands entry guidance, NS, OVpay, Schiphol, museum and attraction websites, city tourism boards, UNESCO, and current operator pages. Long-form content is reviewed line-by-line before publication.
What we fact-check
- Prices are given as ranges, not exact quotes. Last fully refreshed: 2026-06.
- Opening hours are given as bands ("8 AM - 5 PM") unless we have a direct source.
- Transport advice is checked against current NS, OVpay, airport and local operator guidance.
- Seasonal dates such as King's Day, tulip fields, Christmas markets and major museum closures are checked before publication.
- Hotel and restaurant names are checked for current operation. Closed properties are dropped.
Sponsorship rules
We accept sponsored listings and guides. Three rules:
- Sponsorship is always labelled.Sponsored listings carry a "Sponsored" badge. Sponsored guides carry a banner at the top stating who sponsored them.
- Editorial independence is non-negotiable. We do not change our recommendation because a partner asked. If a venue stops meeting our bar, we drop it - sponsored or not.
- We never sell positive reviews.Sponsorship buys placement and effort, not opinion. We will say "we have not been there yet" rather than fake an experience.
Affiliate links
Many of our booking links go to partner sites (Booking.com, GetYourGuide, Klook, Viator, official ticket shops and others). If you book through them we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. See the full affiliate disclosure.
Image attribution
Most location photography is sourced from Wikimedia Commons under CC BY-SA licences. Per-image attribution lives on the image credits page. Operator-provided photos are credited inline where used.
Corrections
We get things wrong. When you spot something incorrect - a closed business, a wrong price band, a re-routed train - email hello@discovernetherlands.travel. We fix corrections within seven days and note material changes.
How often pages are updated
- City pages: reviewed quarterly, refreshed twice a year minimum.
- Listings: reviewed annually; prices, hours and contact verified each refresh.
- Itineraries: re-checked each calendar year and after major transit changes.
- Practical guides: refreshed within four weeks of any major official change.
The "Last updated" date on each detail page is the most recent material edit.
What we do not do
- We do not run pop-up ads, display banners, or interstitials.
- We do not put content behind a paywall.
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not run "top 10" listicles assembled from press releases.
