A former workers' district turned into the calmest good walk in central Amsterdam, and it costs nothing.
Built for labourers and now the address everybody wants, this is a grid of small streets between the Prinsengracht and the Brouwersgracht with independent galleries, antique dealers and brown bars filling the ground floors. Nothing needs booking and no gate has to be passed, which makes it the block of time an over-planned day can absorb. Ninety minutes covers a loop. The Anne Frank House sits on its eastern edge, and the Noordermarkt square runs a farmers' market on Saturdays and a flea market on Mondays.
