Manuscripts, altarpieces and church silver in the country's richest collection of Christian art, housed where it belongs.
Much of what the Reformation and the iconoclasm did not destroy ended up here, and the building — a Carmelite convent turned hospital turned museum — gives the objects a room that suits them. Illuminated manuscripts are the strength; there is usually a Rembrandt or two on loan from elsewhere in the collection's orbit. It is a quieter and more serious hour than the Speelklok five minutes away, which is exactly why the pair works as a morning.
